Obituary of Lynn Robert Graham ~ 2007
Lynn Robert Graham, age 62, passed away in his home near Homer on Sunday, Sept. 30.
He was born to Jean Nelson Graham and Irvin Wallace Graham in Vallejo, Calif. on Nov. 11,
1944. Graham had one brother, Ralph, three years older than he. The family moved to the
mining town of Uravan, Colo. when Graham was four, where his parents worked for the
Union Carbide Company. When Graham was starting high school, the family moved again to
Grand Junction, Colo. There, he medaled in wrestling and swimming, and later loved to
encourage his kids in every sport.
Graham moved to Fairbanks in 1965, and joined the Alaska Air National Guard. He
received his pilotís license and, for the next 20 years, flew C-123s and C-130s around
Alaska. He retired from the Air Guard as a Major in 1985. In 1969, he returned to
college and finished his biology degree. He also met the love of his life, Cindy
Middleton and married her in Homer in 1972. The couple moved to Anchorage, where Graham
flew for the Teamsterís Union. Children Lisa Jean and Russell Warren were born in
In 1976, Grahamís father, Irvin Wallace Graham, died. In 1980, Lynn and his family
moved to Colorado to be near his mother in Grand Junction. Graham bought a ranch near
Whitewater and tried his hand at ranching, horse-breaking, haying and even planted a
vineyard. Joseph Nelson was born to Lynn and Cindy in Grand Junction.
Throughout his life, Graham was a loving son, a wonderful husband and the best dad in
the world. He loved the outdoors and was active in Boy Scouts with both his sons. He
enjoyed elk and deer hunting on his beloved Uncompaghre. He brought happiness to so
many people with his helpful spirit and calming presence. Graham enjoyed all kinds of
people and never hesitated in giving of himself, whether to his oldest friends or a
total stranger. Few people were strangers to Graham for long. After his retirement, he
became an avid digital photographer and loved nothing more than sharing his pictures
and stories. He loved to spend time with his great-nieces and nephews, and children
were always especially fond of him. He will be sorely missed by everyone whose life he
Graham was preceded in death by both parents, and his one sibling, General Ralph H.
Graham. His family includes wife Cynthia Lynne Graham and daughter Lisa Jean Graham of
Homer, his two sons, Russell Warren Graham of Fort Worth, Texas and Joseph Nelson
Graham of Grand Junction, Colo.; and his sister-in-law Sharon Graham of Tucson, Ariz.,
nieces Kathy Thomas of Tucson, Ariz. and Kristen Walker of Atlanta, Ga. and their
families. His extended family includes the Middletons, Shaffords, and Newmans of Homer
and Anchor Point and their little ones.
Services will be held at the Homer United Methodist Church on Friday Oct. 5, 2007 at
2 p.m.. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the
homesforourtroops.org website in Lynn Grahamís name. Lynn was a staunch supporter of
veterans and those who served our country
