Obituary of Dessie Glanville ~ 2008
Dessie Glanville escaped her mortality as death was swallowed up in victory, June 16,
2008, at home on her Anchor River homestead. She was born as Dessie Amanda Headley May
19, 1920, to Silas and Barbra Headley in Monroe, Ohio. She attended Bethesda School of
Nursing in Zanesville, Ohio where she became a registered nurse in 1945. After moving
to Cordova as a Baptist missionary nurse she met and married Carl Glanville in 1952.
Besides raising four children, Dessie worked as a staff nurse and as the director of
nursing at the Homer Hospital. She later worked as a contract mail carrier in Anchor
Point and as a gold miner at Cape Yakataga.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Carl Glanville; her daughter, Denise
Glanville of Colorado Springs; sons and daughters-in-law, Dwight and Diann Glanville,
John and Laurie Glanville, all of Anchor Point; and grandsons David, Grant, Shane and
She was preceded in death by her son, Bruce Glanville; her parents Silas and Barbra;
her brother Homer; and her sisters, Jessie and Hazel.
Dessie loved people and is remembered by many for her kind and loving spirit. The
family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to all those who went the extra
mile to brighten Dessie’s last years with encouragement and love.
