Obituary of Bryan Wayne Farrow ~ 2009
Longtime Homer resident, Mr. Bryan Wayne Farrow, 47, died Friday, April 10, 2009 near
the Caribou Hills in Homer from the result of a snowmobiling incident.
Mr. Farrow was born July 2, 1961 to Dan W. Farrow and Sandra P. (Fryar) Farrow in
Hinsdale, Ill. Bryan was married in 1984, and in 1986 enlisted in the United States
Coast Guard as a Machinery Technician . His tours of duty included: (in order) Small
Boat Station, Port O’Connor, Texas; USCGC Chilula, (Ft. Macon) Atlantic Beach, NC.;
USCGC Ironwood, Kodiak Alaska; USCGC Point Roanoke Island, Homer. He also served in the
Honor Color Guard at the Whitehouse in Washington, D.C. In his career he graduated
valedictorian of Machinery Technician School and received many high marks for his
outstanding performance as an engineering crew member. Bryan was an excellent seaman.
He was extremely proud of the fact that when the seas were rough enough to walk on the
bulkheads he never “fed the fish.”
After Bryan’s last tour of duty in 1995 on the USCGC Point Roanoke Island, he was
employed at the Northern Enterprises Boat Yard where he was the yard foreman and later
began ‘In the Hole Enterprises’ offering excavation services to the Homer and Anchor
Point area. If you wanted to get to know Bryan, you just pulled up a stool to whatever
he was tinkering with and started up some conversation.
His proud family heritage dating back to The Alamo claims his rank as a descendant of
The Republic of Texas. Bryan’s ashes were delivered to Leakey, Texas, where he will be
laid to rest in the Farrow/Davis/Auld family burial site.
The family wrote, “Bryan remarkably gave us the honor and privilege of sharing his life
with him and remarkably we will remember.
He is preceded in death by: his father, Dan W. Farrow of Texas; and grandparents, Bruce
and Zylpha Taff, of Rio Frio, Texas.
Bryan Wayne Farrow is survived by his son Taw Wayne Farrow of Homer, Alaska; mother
and stepfather, Sandra and Dave Mitchell of Rio Frio, Texas; sister, Dana Riley of Rio
Frio, Texas; niece, Melody MacArthur and her children; Zylpha Bice, Zachary Bice,
